Natural Menopause Support Programme

A Holistic Approach to Menopause Fatigue

Menopause can have a profound effect on our energy levels.  Almost half of women during perimenopause are affected by fatigue, and this rises to nearly 80% of women after menopause.  Perimenopause is the time leading up to menopause and can last for up to 10 years.

You may find that in addition to fatigue you experience mood changes, sleep problems, menstrual cycle changes, hot flushes, and night sweats.

The Natural Menopause programme is a six-month package of support.  I use a combination of health coaching with bespoke herbal remedies blended to meet your needs.

Let Me Introduce Myself

Hi, I am Sarah Flower, a Medical Herbalist, based in Brighton, UK.  I help women with fatigue improve their energy levels naturally.

I ran a small drop-in herbal clinic in Brighton for eight years.  During this time, I helped many people struggling with stress, insomnia, and hormonal issues such as premenstrual syndrome and menopause.

My interest in fatigue is because I have always had low energy.  Feeling tired all the time is such a common reason for GP visits that it has a medical acronym, TATT.  We are living with an epidemic of exhaustion.

Experiencing fatigue during perimenopause or after menopause can have a very negative impact on your life.  Many of us are caring for children and managing busy careers.  Fatigue can make work a struggle and leave you with little energy to spend quality time with those you love.

I developed this program specifically for women during and after menopause who are experiencing fatigue as a significant symptom.

How Natural Menopause Support Can Help

It can be hard to know when perimenopause begins.  You may be experiencing any number of symptoms.  Symptoms include menstrual cycle changes, increased premenstrual syndrome (PMS), mood swings, anxiety, hot flushes, night sweats, and fatigue.

The mood and energy symptoms can come as a surprise.  You might not have expected to begin feeling anxious or exhausted or for your PMS to worsen.

Menopause occurs after one year without periods.  Symptoms can include fatigue, mood symptoms, insomnia, hot flushes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.  Perimenopause can continue for up to ten years, and symptoms can continue for 4-5 years after menopause.   The changing levels of hormones may disrupt sleep and cause fatigue.

Many women are also caring for children and juggling a busy working life around menopause.  This can be a stressful time of life.  In addition, women can find the experience of menopause stressful.  Stress worsens fatigue.  So managing stress is an important part of menopause support.

A holistic approach is helpful.  Treatment needs to help with relaxation, improving sleep, and supporting hormones.  Diet and digestion are also important.

Your diet can affect your mood, and some foods containing plant oestrogens can also help support hormonal balance.  Your microbiome, the bacteria living in your gut, is also crucial.  An unhealthy microbiome can increase stress levels, and stress can disrupt your microbiome.  In addition, you need a healthy microbiome to absorb the nutrients and plant oestrogens from food.

During the Natural Menopause programme we focus on hormonal balance, reducing the effects of stress, and improving sleep.  We make essential changes to your diet and lifestyle.  These are incremental changes that are sustainable for you in the long term.

I use herbal remedies based on their traditional uses.  A bespoke herbal blend aims to help with relaxation, sleep, digestion, and hormonal balance.
